2 Alle-Kiski Valley educators get major awards for excellence in instruction

Erb is 1 of two Alle-Kiski Valley educators who been given statewide recognition this week for excellence in teachers.

The Education Partnership named Erb its Elementary Instructor of the Yr. Kiski Spot East Key School Principal Pat Marchand gained Principal of the 12 months in the partnership’s 3rd yearly Trainer Appreciation Awards.

The winners have been picked by general public on the internet voting, and the Education Partnership obtained additional than 90 nominations.

Voting members had been in a position to decide on one educator per category and vote when day by day.

The Education Partnership is a nonprofit group serving community, charter and private schools with college supplies for college students in need.

For Erb’s 21 college students, the acquire produced a flurry of excitement as they organized to rejoice with a classroom bash.

“I advised them we would have a Happy Meal bash,” stated Erb, referring to the well known child meals.

Erb named the McDonald’s restaurant in the Parnassus portion of New Kensington to preorder 21 Happy Meals, which she planned to invest in for her pupils.

But the McDonald’s supervisor experienced other strategies.

“They named and explained to me they’re so pleased and excited that I won this award and that McDonald’s would spend for the meals,” Erb explained. “It’s so variety of them. I cried a very little.”

Erb was notified of her award by means of e-mail Monday night while on the phone with her mother.

“I started to cry and advised my mom, and we ended up both so elated,” Erb stated.

Erb, 42, of Springdale was raised in Arnold.

A 1998 graduate of Valley Higher Faculty, Erb graduated from Position Park University and received her master’s degree from Penn Condition College.

She has taught in the New Ken-Arnold District for nearly 20 decades.

“They have a pure joy in understanding a thing new,” Erb explained of her learners. “They’re extremely happy when they can do a thing for the initially time.”

New Kensington-Arnold Superintendent Chris Sefcheck praised Erb’s devotion to her students.

“She’s an exceptional teacher in a making total of exemplary teachers, generating this so specific,” Sefcheck explained. “Her endeavours in and out of the classroom replicate the eyesight shared by our instructors at Martin. She’s perfectly-deserving of this honor and represents the most effective section of our district.”

Principal honored

A Navy veteran and principal in the Kiski Place School District for just about 20 decades, Marchand credits his co-employees and faculty setting as contributors to his prosperous leadership in the district.

Calling the acquire an “honor,” Marchand, a Norwin Higher University alumnus, mentioned he’s very pleased of the get the job done lifestyle at Kiski Place.

Marchand has served as principal for 19 several years at Kiski Region East Most important in Vandergrift.

He commenced his educational vocation instructing fourth quality for eight decades.

He has served as principal at North Washington, Washington and Laurel Level elementaries — all in Kiski Location.

Marchand earned his doctorate of instruction in leadership and administration from Point Park University in 2020.

Kiski Area Superintendent Misty Slavic supplied her congratulations Wednesday.
